South Gives Back

South Restaurant and Bar on Front Street is a business that sometimes gives until it hurts – economically speaking.

Every Tuesday South's owners, Cappy and Price Gledhill, give 10 percent of sales to a local non-profit organization.

"Sometimes it is a break even, sometimes we are over-staffed for the turn out and go into the red, but overall we are certain that the increased sense of loyalty it brings is a financial plus for us," Cappy said in an e-mail.

Both being former secondary school teachers, Cappy said she and her husband Price have extra interest in supporting education programs but they reach out to any worthy cause – they recently donated a 10 percent Tuesday to the Lions Club.

"(People's) gratitude is humbling because we feel like they have helped us at least as much as we have helped them," Cappy said.

The next 10 percent Tuesday will be Jan. 18 and will benefit Cascade Citizens for School, which is a Leavenworth organization raising money to support the school bond coming up in the November elections.
